Mailbox not archiving in Enterprise Vault

The current environment I am working for had an issue with Enterprise Vault not archiving a users mailbox, this user had left about 3 months prior.

There is a couple of things that you need to check in this situation

  1. Is the user disabled/account expired
  2. Is the user hidden in the Exchange GAL
  3. Is the add-in visible in Outlook
  4. Check the temp file, %temp%\ev_client_log_20151119132321.txt (date numbers at end will be different!)

Users can’t be disabled or expired in AD, they also cant be hidden in the GAL for archiving to work.

If the add-in isn’t visible in Outlook it could mean that they do not meet the policy for provisioning them in Enterprise Vault

The temp I looked at luckily had the answer:

19/11/2015 02:23:21.013[6548]: Log file created (level 1).
 19/11/2015 02:23:21.013[6548]: LoadSettingsFromHiddenMessage com_error: 0x80004005
19/11/2015 02:23:21.014[6548]: User has never been enabled.
19/11/2015 02:23:24.955[6548]: FUI: Not loading UI as action map is empty. Is the user enabled?
 19/11/2015 02:29:21.092[6548]: LoadSettingsFromHiddenMessage com_error: 0x80004005
19/11/2015 02:29:21.093[6548]: User has never been enabled.
19/11/2015 02:29:21.094[6548]: FUI: Not loading UI as action map is empty. Is the user enabled?

The user of course wasn’t enabled for archiving.

Enabling the user is a pretty simple and is performed form the Enterprise Vault console:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Enable Mailboxes.
  2. Follow the steps in the Enable Mailbox wizard
  3. Once complete check Archives\Exchange Mailbox to see if the archive is not appearing in Enterprise Vault
